We chat with The Principles of Necromancy artist about his fave single issue, and how it exemplifies the Spider-Man saga.
Welcome to Married to Singles, a new Patreon Exclusive podcast series where we ask comic creators, professionals, podcasters, and fans to choose their favorite single issue comic and discuss it with us. In this entry, Eamon Winkle selects Peter Parker: Spider-Man Vol. 2 #33, originally published by Marvel Comics. Listen to the whole conversation HERE.
This week, we're digging into another "classic" comic with a rad comic book creator. We asked The Principles of Necromancy artist and Jesse Tappia II Champ Stamp award winner Eamon Winkle to share one of his absolutely favorite single issues, and he came back with Peter Parker: Spider-Man Vol. 2 #33. While Winkle treasures this issue, neither of us had read the book before, and it was a delight to discover a comic that very much speaks to everything we love about Peter Parker and his Spider-Man pursuit.
Peter Parker: Spider-Man Vol. 2 #33 was published by Marvel Comics in July 2001. It was written by Paul Jenkins, penciled by Mark Buckingham, inked by Wayne Faucher, colored by Transparency Digital, lettered by Richard Starkings and Jason Levine, and edited by Axel Alonso. On the anniversary of Uncle Ben's death, the story reveals one of Peter Parker's cherished memories, tinged with grief but tagged with a critical life lesson. With great power, there must also come great - no, not that one. "Maybe next year."
Help Eamon Winkle Celebrate Peter Parker: Spider-Man
We discuss why this issue resonates so profoundly with Eamon Winkle and how it informs his artistry. At first glance, you may not notice much in common between The Principles of Necromancy and Peter Parker: Spider-Man #33, but a thread ties them together. As Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man dominates Disney+, we were ecstatic to take a moment and celebrate a certain Spider-Man aspect that seems missing from the Marvel Studios Peter Parkers.
