In a new podcast series, we chat with retail warrior Erik Jones about selling comics in 2025 and beyond.
What's up lovebirds? Welcome to the first episode of Support Your Local Comic Shop - a new Comic Book Couples Counseling monthly podcast series published exclusively to our Patron Feed, but it is unlocked and FREE for everyone to listen to. If you like what we're doing, please consider sharing it with another comic book-loving friend.
For this first episode, we wanted to talk to our pal, who helps us every month at the Alamo Drafthouse, co-sponsoring our Comic Book Movie Film Club. Erik C. Jones manages the Einsner-nominated Four Color Fantasies in Winchester, Virginia. While he's been slinging comics for a long time, the shop has been around even longer - since 1987. They are the very definition of a neighborhood store, always engaged with their community and offering a warm, welcoming environment for all curious comic book readers.
We discuss Erik's first experience with comics, how he found himself behind the counter, and the secrets to quality customer service. We get into the news around Diamond Comic Distributors filing Chapter 11, what Erik expects for the business in the near future, and what he expects from it in the far future. We discuss their 2024 and their plans for 2025. And we celebrate how Four Color Fantasies and its annual Sketch Cover Charity Auction has raised over $40,000 for the Literacy Volunteers of the Winchester Area!
