The Longbow Hunters: Values

As a companion to our latest Green Arrow and Black Canary episode, we invite you to select your most cherished human values.

If you've listened to our latest episode on The Longbow Hunters, you've heard us mention the myriad of human values that we all hold onto and prioritize. Clearly, Oliver Queen and Dinah Lance share a few values, but they also seek others that contradict their partner's point of view. This conflict occurs in all couples, and it ignites an essential conversation that must occur for the relationship to continue and prosper.

Megan Lundgren LMFT (Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist) lists forty-three values in her self-help guide, Relationship Book for New Couples: Proven Strategies to Nurture Your Connection and Build and Long-Lasting Bond.

They are:

Adventure, Authenticity, Community, Compassion, Contentment, Cooperation, Creativity, Education, Faith, Family, Friendship, Frugality, Generosity, Gratitude, Growth, Health, Honesty, Hospitality, Joy, Justice, Kindness, Leadership, Legacy, Love, Loyalty, Mercy, Optimism, Patience, Peace, Perseverance, Playfulness, Progress, Relationships, Respect, Rest, Security, Self-Control, Simplicity, Spirituality, Tradition, Trust, Wealth, Wisdom.

As Lisa asked Brad in Comic Book Couples Counseling session 72, pick the five from the forty-three that mean the most to you and the five that mean the most to your partner. How many do you share? For the ones that don't, should you address them or let them lay? We attempt to answer that question for ourselves in this week's episode and for Ollie and Dinah as well. Play along at home, and let us know what you think.

And if you haven't already, be sure to check out our previous Black Canary and Green Arrow episode discussing their time on Denny O'Neil's Justice League of America. The Longbow Hunters is quite the change from that Silver Age delight.
